Changes in History illustrated via a dance workshop

11 November 2015

History students have recently participated in a dance workshop led by Svenja Jinman, a freelance dance teacher.  The workshop covered dance across the 20th century to tie in with the new History specification on Britain 'Britain Transformed 1918-1997'. Her workshop covered the Charleston, Rock n Roll and the Hustle.

As well as learning the dances she also spoke to the students about how changes in society led to these dances for example how increasing female freedoms in the 1920s allowed dances which were not necessarily with a male partner.

Max Newman - 2nd year History student 'An incredibly fun experience, a real example of active learning. It gave us all a real understanding of how society changed throughout the times.'
