What will I study?

Students will study 4 subjects from the list below (3 if they have attained a grade 4 in both Maths and English Language).

  • Maths (compulsory if a minimum of a grade 4 not held)
  • English Language (compulsory if a minimum of a grade 4 not held)
  • Applied Science BTEC Award
  • Health and Social Care BTEC Award
  • Creative Media BTEC Award
  • Business (Retail) BTEC Award
  • Travel and Tourism BTEC Award

Students will be expected to undertake a taught study skills programme on a weekly basis.  This course is designed to support students in the transition to study in a college environment and prepare them for their next steps.

There is also a Tutorial Programme based on group sessions and 1:1 meetings with a Tutor. This member of staff will oversee progress and provide support throughout the 2 Plus year.

Students will also be expected to participate in at least one Enrichment activity in college. This choice is made at Enrolment and includes options such as Work Experience, Volunteering, Sport and Music.

Where does it lead?

This one year Study Programme can be used as a basis for progression into A Level / BTEC Level 3 study at the English and Welsh Bridge Campuses (in appropriate subjects areas and where a grade 5 has been attained in English Language), BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at London Road Campus, Apprenticeships or Employment. Guidance and support on progression will be given during the course of the programme.
