- Who is it for?
This course is specifically designed for those aged 16-19 who want to become adult nurses. You will need to have a genuine interest in caring for people and the desire to make a difference in their lives.
This is a rewarding career with many opportunities. You will complete an industry placement in NHS settings, working alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals to learn about the role and to develop the skills required. (Industry Placement will be 1-2 days per week.)
This course will take you into adult nursing, with the opportunity to progress directly into adult nursing at the University of Chester on the condition of meeting entry requirements.
You can also go directly into employment as an ambulance support worker, healthcare support worker, or senior healthcare support worker.
- Entry Requirements
You will need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English, Maths and Science. You must be positive, dedicated,
and enthusiastic with excellent communication skills. You will also need to apply for a DBS check.If you are interested in other strands of nursing, such as children’s nursing, mental health, midwifery, or paramedic science, you should choose the Health & Social Care Diploma. This pathway has been developed to help meet the national shortage of adult nurses.
- What does the course involve?
The first year of the T Level comprises:
Core A:
- Working in the healthcare sector
- Infection control
- Safeguarding
- Health and safety
- Person-centred care
- Health and well-being
- Good clinical practice.
Core B:
- Science (Chemistry, Physics, and Biology).
As part of an adult nursing team, you'll be supporting the treatment and care of adults for a wide variety of long and short-term conditions. This could include heart disease, injuries from an accident, pneumonia, arthritis, diabetes or cancer.
Not only will you need to help treat their physical health conditions, you'll also need to build trust with your patients, and provide emotional support
- How is the course assessed?
You will be assessed using a variety of methods including placement, an Employer Set Project, two exams, practical activities, presentation skills, teamwork, communication skills and a professional discussion.
