- Who is it for?
This is a beginners course for people with an interest in creative writing. The course provides a sound introduction to numerous techniques, a wide range of texts, literary critique, and evaluation skills.
- Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. An interest in wider reading and writing is desirable.
- What does the course involve?
Through evaluating a diverse collection of texts, including your own writings, you will explore the following:
- a range of literary techniques, including sensory imagery
- genre
- character development
- realistic dialogue
- plot and structure
- literary critique
- basic evaluation skills
The course topics are 'revisiting familiar things' and 'writing from experience', and are designed to be flexible enough to accommodate individual writing styles and preferences whilst providing a challenge.
- How is the course assessed?
There are no formal assessments. However, the course will be assessed formatively throughout and the course aim is that you will produce pieces of writing for each course topic.
- Additional Notes
There are no required additional materials or resources, but you will need writing materials/media. In addition, you may wish to purchase books for personal use as the course progresses. The college has the following facilities: an extensive range of modern computer equipment, a well-equipped Resource Centre (available to you outside normal class times), and an on-line learning system you can access from anywhere with an internet connection.
