Mission and Core Values

To be a Sixth Form College which specialises in academic courses, delivers outstanding results and opportunities, enabling positive progression for all its learners

Shrewsbury Sixth Form College specialises in education and support for 16-19 year old students and currently provides for over 1700 learners from all over Shropshire and the surrounding counties making us the largest A level provider in the area. We consistently rank highly in the top 20 of sixth form colleges nationally and are proud that, in 2016, we will celebrate 35 years of providing teaching and learning of the highest quality, within a supportive atmosphere, offering students an ideal bridge between school, work and higher education.

We are distinctive because of the wide range of full time courses that we offer and our proven record of outstanding student achievements in exams and the wider curriculum.

We are proud of our record of getting students to competitive universities, other HE opportunities and employment with training. Over 80% of our students go onto further study either at University, FE or specialist colleges such as music conservatoires. Several students have accessed university through high level apprenticeship schemes with companies such as BBC and British Aerospace.

The college is now based on two campuses at the heart of the town; we’ve named them ‘English Bridge Campus’ and ‘Welsh Bridge Campus’, making use of the well known features of the river loop. Having campuses in the centre of Shrewsbury, with improved accommodation and facilities, enables us to be at the heart of the community and for students to contribute to town centre life.

English Bridge Campus comprises Wakeman Hall which houses a sports hall, food technology rooms, two study centres, a common room and cafe as well as teaching rooms for Art & Design (Graphics, Art, Textiles, Food Technology and Photography), Politics, Health & Social Care, History, Classical Civilisation, English, Music, Performance Studies, Film & Media Studies, PE and Sport.

Welsh Bridge Campus comprises several buildings. ‘Austin’ houses several Biology labs and the common room and cafe; ‘Priory Hall’ houses Physics, Electronics, Chemistry and Computing/IT Labs, Maths, Psychology, Economics and Sociology whilst ‘Quarry’  houses Business, Modern Foreign Languages, Travel & Tourism and the study centre. ‘Severn’, the newest build, holds Geography, Law and a Geology Lab.

It’s our aim to maintain the high standards of teaching and student achievement that have ranked us as one of the best sixth forms in the country.
