Former student is one step closer to Beauty Queen crown
11 April 2018
A former A Levels student has qualified for the semi-final of Miss England 2018.
Emma Pollard, studied Business, Media Studies and Photography A Levels at Shrewsbury Colleges Group and then began competing in beauty pageants as a fun past-time that would keep her busy and give her something to aim towards. Today, after her hard work, she is the current Miss Shropshire and on her way to the Miss England semi-finals.
After completing her A Levels last Summer, Emma, 19, from Oswestry, was planning to go to university, but deferred and decided to take a gap year instead. She said: “As young people, we tend to put a lot of pressure on getting everything done quickly and being who we want to be straight away. Then, when it comes to taking a gap year there is pressure on travelling and having enough money to do what you want.” So, Emma took a different approach and moved to London, got a part-time job and spent the rest of her time focusing on her pageant career.
Now back in Shropshire and with the county beauty crown atop her head, she is preparing for the semi-finals of Miss England 2018. Emma went to the competition last year and finished in the top 10 for the talent round by playing the piano blindfolded. She is also an avid netball player, which she played during her time with Shrewsbury Colleges Group.
Emma said: “Getting through to the Miss England semi-finals is a fantastic achievement, it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. This is only my second year of entering the contest, however I know I will continue to compete for many more years to come. It takes a lot of charity work, raising money and awareness, supporting others and many other things contribute to how well you do in the contest.
The semi-finals take place on July 3 and Emma is raising money for Beauty with a Purpose which supports disadvantaged children around the world.
