Key Assessments

Regular Key Assessments are carried out in each A level, AS level or GCSE subject area. These are due to be completed and returned to students by the dates in the table below and will be available for parents to view on ProPortal from after that date.

On occasion, the grades will be released before that date if the programme area would like parents to have earlier access to the Key Assessment grades.

BTEC courses at level 2 and 3 do not have Key Assessments in the same way as courses at GCSE and A level. Instead, the mark book for their Assessments will be made available to parents in real time and you will be able to see marks as they are submitted. There is sometimes a delay in the release of these grades following submission of an assessment as the work is internally verified. There are 7 Key Assessments in Year 1 for each subject and a minimum of 3 of these assessments will be marked to external exam board mark schemes and standards. The grades for these summative assessments will be the same as those that can be awarded for the overall qualification (as below). The other pieces of work, not marked to exam board standards (formative) will be awarded grades according to the descriptors in the second table.

With any assessment some teaching staff may opt to share feedback with students on ProPortal in the form of a comment. As these comments and targets are shared with parents and Student Support Tutors they can be helpful in allowing other people to reinforce messages. Other teaching staff will choose to share feedback with students in different ways and so this is an addition, rather than an expectation, on ProPortal.

Parental Reports

Reports are also delivered via ProPortal. These are designed to give more qualitative detail to support the Key Assessment grades reported throughout the year.

Consultation Events

These are an opportunity for parents to meet teaching staff for an appointment in order to discuss progress and gain an insight into what can be done to maintain or improve performance. We encourage students to attend these events with parents in the belief that best results are gained when they are involved in the process.
