From A levels to cooking for US Presidents

After finishing at Sixth Form College* I was accepted on the Culinary Arts Management degree course at University College Birmingham. The degree covers practical skills as well as modules in Business operations, Food Beverage and hospitality operations, Nutrition, Culinary Production Techniques, Financial Management, Research Practice, Marketing Communications for hospitality, events planning and kitchen and restaurant operations.

The degree also includes a work placement year and I am at present spending mine at the White Barn Inn in Maine USA. This 1820’s inn is the only 5 star restaurant in Maine. They have an amazing reputation and I have designed and cooked dishes for 2 ex presidents and Hollywood stars.

I will be returning to Birmingham next September to finish my degree however already been offered other jobs around the country such as a very famous restaurant Called Pure C in the Netherlands which has 1 Michelin star so I feel honoured to be offered that job. I feel that the experience gained on my work placement will make me more employable.

 

* Luke studied Geography, PE, Graphics and Photography and left SSFC in 2012.
